This project is fun and can even get the kids involved! Using an ordinary egg, you can create your own mold and make an Easter egg candle.
Supplies Needed:
- Fresh egg
- Sewing needle
- Tooth pick
- Syringe (the ones used to dispense baby medicine)
- Double boiler or melting pot
- Pillar blend candle wax (soy or paraffin)
- Candle wicking
- Candle dye (optional)
- Candle fragrance (optional)
Step 1: Prepare the Mold
Take the egg and puncture a small hole at the tip of the egg using a needle (be careful not to crack the egg or make the hole too big). Use a long tooth pick to help empty out the contents of the egg.
Clean the inside of the egg by using the syringe to spray water in and drain the egg until you see clean water coming out. Allow the egg to dry upside down, if possible.
Step 2: Set the Wick
Pass a thin candle wick into the egg (shown by the red line) and make sure you leave half an inch or more of the wick hanging outside of the egg.
Step 3: Melt and Pour the Wax
Using the double boiler or melting pot, melt the candle wax to the recommended temperature by the manufacturer.
Note: if you want a layered color Easter egg candle, melt enough wax for one color at a time and do not mix them all together when melting.
After the wax is melted, add color if desired, and stir for two minutes. Add fragrance oil, if desired, and stir for another two minutes.
Once the wax is ready, use the syringe again to inject the liquid wax into the empty egg shell through the top hole.
If you want multi layers of colored wax, wait for the first color to dry for around 15 minutes before injecting the second color and so forth.
Now after adding the colored wax layer by layer (with an interval of 15 minutes between each layer) you will have to leave the egg to set and totally dry for at least half a day or overnight.
Step 4: Remove the Mold

When the egg is ready, just peel away the eggshell carefully and you will have a beautiful Easter Egg Candle. If you find that your egg has problems standing up on it’s own, flatten the bottom of the egg with a knife or just use a candle holder to hold it upright when burning.
Enjoy your Easter Egg Candles!
