Floating candles are a fun way to decorate and add a little atmosphere to your home or gathering. Hearts are a fun shape to make into a floating candle.

Supplies Needed:

Heart shaped tin or silicone mold
Candle wax (votive and/or pillar blend)
Candle wicks and tabs
Valentines themed fragrance oils
Candle dye
Mold release spray or Pam cooking spray

There are so many sizes of heart tins available that can be used to have a nice variety of simple heart floating candles. Keep in mind that the larger the candle, the more water will be needed to float it in. You can also use heart shaped cookie cutters.

Step One: Prepare Molds

Line a cookie tray with parchment paper. Place heart tins on the cookie tray and spray the candle tins with mold release spray or Pam cooking spray.

Step Two: Melt Wax

Melt your wax according to manufacturer’s directions. Once melted, add your candle dye and stir for two minutes. Add your candle fragrance and stir for another two minutes.

Step Three: Add The Wicks and The Wax

Place a wick in the middle of your heart candle tin. When the wax is at the proper pouring temperature, pour the wax into the mold. Make sure the wick stays centered.

Step Four: Remove The Candles From The Molds

After the wax cools, take the heart candle floater out of the tin. Turn the tin upside down over the palm of your hand. Sometimes a squeeze of the mold will help it release.

Step Five: Display Your New Candles

Place the heart candle floaters in an adequate amount of water and light.

Enjoy your new Floating Heart Candles!

Candle Tip of the Week

Floating Candles

Floating candles can provide both a formal and informal setting for either a dinner party or a back yard picnic. Floating candles in a clear bowl creates an extra special lighting effect. Using distilled water eliminates mineral buildup on the side of crystal or glass, preserving its unique presentation of floating candles.
